This purple/blackish-leaf Crape Myrtle is a stunning specimen plant, especially when it's in bloom (looks spectacular when planted in groupings). Without trimming it can be a large shrub, but most homeowners trim the bottom branches to shape into a small tree (10FT tall x 8FT wide). Plant in early spring/late fall and water regularly until roots are established. Clip off spent flowers to promote a second bloom. All Crape Myrtles should be pruned in late winter or early spring.
